
Sue Fiscoe of Modesto, Calif., the first female to serve as a PGA Section president, has become the first woman district director appointed to the PGA of America's Board of Directors. Fiscoe joined five other directors, who were sworn in Saturday, Nov. 14, at The PGA's 93rd Annual Meeting at The Ritz Carlton in New Orleans.
The Midwest PGA Section, composed of 280 members and apprentices, was honored today as the recipient of its first Herb Graffis Award, presented annually to a PGA of America Section for extraordinary or exemplary contributions in player development, whether by conducting or supporting Play Golf America initiatives.
Andy Weissinger, PGA head professional at The Pines Golf Course in Fort Eustis, Va., was presented to PGA of America membership today as the recipient of the 2009 Patriot Award.
The PGA of America bestowed posthumous membership upon three African American golf pioneers -- Ted Rhodes, John Shippen and Bill Spiller -- who were denied the opportunity to become PGA members during their professional careers. The PGA also has granted posthumous honorary membership to Joe Louis Barrow Sr. -- better known as Joe Louis -- the legendary world heavyweight boxing champion who became an advocate for diversity in golf.
The PGA of America presented a $10,000 donation Wednesday to the Bayou District Foundation Junior Golf Program, with funds targeted to support the curriculum, equipment and instructors that are committed to supporting and expanding youth golf access in New Orleans.
